Overview of frEeMuZik

Preserving the past and enriching the present using technologies of the future. frEeMuZik will perform the vital role of creating a cultural 'space' for the expression and documentation of musical forms that are ignored by the commercial marketplace and in danger of disappearing. Preserving the diversity of Indian musical heritages from the homogenising onslaught of corporate mass media is a vital project that will not require immense resources, but will ensure that priceless cultural artefacts are not lost and can live, not only through professional recording onto durable media, but also through audio-visual documentation into musicians lives, traditions and influences.

frEeMuZik will empower disenfranchised artists and make varied musical forms accessible to audiences in India and abroad. It will utilise multiple virtual and physical channels for distribution and promotion of artists and their music, including Internet/Sarai-web-site, word of mouth, mailing lists etc. On the web site we will put information about the artists and their music styles along with their music to download.

Music Spectrum

We will be concentrating on Indian Classical and folk music start with. But we are not limited just to that. The whole spectrum of music will be covered from  Western classical to the eternal Latin rhythms and from acoustica to Electronica. All artists are free to contribute their materials and be a part of frEeMuZik. To Experiment and improvise is the spirit of frEeMuZik.
Musician  and Culture Space

Under frEeMuZik independent artists from India and Abroad can be recorded and promoted. This will include both classical and contempary music forms along with acoustic and electronic music.  At the heart frEeMuZik is closer to a ‘Music Collective’ where musicians interact and record free of various commercial pressures frEeMuZik is an process of empowering the artist with his own music. (S)he has a CD of his own music recorded on it , so (S)he can use it to promote themselves /Sarai/frEeMuZik

frEeMuZik is a genuinely new intervention, marrying the past and the future to gain maximum benefit for musicians, cultural traditions and audiences now and in the future. This important project can be successful with comparatively little funding, we urge you to consider supporting traditional music and increasingly neglected musicians, who desperately need to be encouraged not only for us, but also the benefit of future generations. The death of culture is always a crime; help frEeMuZik prevent it..
Music, Film and CDs

The idea is also  to try to put parts of this musical journey on films and cd's, as this project will be best expressed in an Audio-Visual (AV) process. The CD's produced in this process will not be costing anything. They are supposed to be distributed for Free. Although the CD's are basically free they can be sold by artists (at their appropriate prices) if they are having a concerts or as the situation demands. frEeMuZik is the first step towards breaking away from the 'commercial-music-catch22-situation'. The real musician in a commercial setting never gets a fair chance to express himself or herself; classical and folk music never fits into their commercial model for making money. And anyway an artist on an average will not get the fair amount of cut from the sales his record that he really deserves. I can go on and on about this -- but u know what I mean it is there on the TV, Films(POP) and the radio everyday.
